Nominating Authority

CIAC offers the international community the service of appointing arbitrators for international arbitration proceedings administered by other arbitral institutions or for ad hoc arbitrations.

This service is activated by the submission of a nomination request by the interested party or by the parties that have entered into the arbitration agreement to the General Directorate, which will be handled by the CIAC’s Committee for the Selection of Arbitrators and Challenges of the Permanent Commission.

Petition requirements

The nomination request must contain, at a minimum, the following information:

  • Full name, description of the party (natural or legal person), email address, and other contact details for each of the parties.
  • Full name, description, email address, and contact details of the person(s) representing the parties in the proceedings.
  • Notice of international arbitration or request to commence arbitration, as well as any response or statement received in relation to said notice.
  • A simple copy of the contract from which the dispute arises and the arbitration agreement invoked (if the arbitration agreement is not contained in the contract, it must be attached separately).
  • Any indication of time limits applicable to the proceedings.
  • Relevant observations or proposals regarding the seat of arbitration, the applicable legal rules, the language of arbitration, and the jurisdictions involved.
  • An indication of the amount claimed.
  • Any other information that the requesting party or parties deem relevant.

Submission and Payment

  • The submission of the request must be accompanied by proof of payment of the registration fee for the nomination of international arbitrators.
  • The current fee for this service is USD $1,500 plus bank charges. CIAC will provide payment instructions and the electronic channel for sending the request and the corresponding proof of payment.
  • The General Directorate may request additional information or documentation and will act in accordance with its rules and procedures.
