Inter-American Commission on Commercial Arbitration

The Inter-American Commercial Arbitration Commission (CIAC) is an institution founded by the Organization of American States in 1934, dedicated to the promotion and provision of dispute resolution services through arbitration and mediation, in accordance with its regulations and with the support of its National and Associate Sections (27 arbitration and conciliation centers in Latin America).

CIAC also provides its services at the request of an interested party when Article 3 of the 1975 Inter-American Convention on Commercial Arbitration (Panama Convention) is invoked. This Convention provides that, in the absence of an express agreement between the parties, arbitration shall be conducted under the rules of the Inter-American Commission on Commercial Arbitration.

The CIAC also promotes the talent of Ibero-American arbitrators, women, and young professionals in arbitration, as well as raising awareness about disability issues, through its working groups.
